In Southern California, any activities associated with traditional winter
recreation are difficult to come across.  When was the last time someone
was seen building a snowman in downtown Los Angeles?  One can only imagine
that if it’s hard for people with adequate resources to partake in winter
festivities, it must be close to impossible for underprivileged children
to enjoy them.

That obstacle is turned into opportunity through United Steps.  This past
winter season, the non-profit organization hosted two “Skate With Me”
events.  The first one was located at Pershing Square in downtown on
November 27th.  It featured a wonderful meet and greet with Snoopy and
Friends.  The kids were thrilled to skate to holiday music and feast on
pizza afterward.  Part 2 of “Skate With Me” took place in Santa Monica,
January 21st, on an absolutely gorgeous afternoon.  Smiling faces abound
as children took their turns exploring the ice.  And if a magical
winter-wonderland experience was not enough, the little ones were treated
to a healthy dinner at Real Food Daily to top off the day.  To learn how
